What is a Basketball Shoot-a-thon?
Unfamiliar with conducting a basketball shoot-a-thon event? It's a popular, fun choice for basketball teams to raise funding while practicing their shooting skills.
How does it work? Players typically shoot a specified number of free throws during a single, or multiple day, event and based upon the number of shots made they earn funds for their team. Players request pledges from sponsors, such as friends and family, for each shot made and/or for a flat donation amount. Players typically request their pledges before the event starts but the Free Throws-4-Funds app allows players to enter pledges during and after the event. It's a terrific way to raise funding with players also getting extra free throw shooting practice.
Another fun option versus shooting free throws is having players shoot around-the-world or the 3-shot, time-out contest (lay-up, free throw, 3-point shots). The Free Throws-4-Funds app can easily count those shots as well.

Simplified Sponsor Registration: Streamline the entering of sponsor pledges by players utilizing their iPhones' contacts lists. Pledges can be registered either before, during, or after the event to maximize your team's donations amount.
Player Scoreboard: During the event, players record their shooting results within the app's scoreboard. Scores can be easily corrected if entered in error and the scoreboard lets the player know how many shots they have remaining.
View Real-time Fundraising Stats: See your fundraising event results in real-time using our app's detailed reports. Raise excitement as players track their shooting performance and fundraising with their teammates.
Sponsor Communication: Sponsors do not need the Free Throws-4- Funds app. Players engage with their sponsors by using our app's integrated text messaging to share their shooting performance and photos .
Secure Donations Collection and Tracking: We want you to keep all of your donations. We encourage you to collect your donations with your own website, an online payment platform, or by cash/check and our app supports that for you. If you need assistance with this, ask us. We are more than willing to help you.
Alternatively, if it's easier for your team, we can collect your donations for you with our website that integrates securely with a popular payment platform. In this case, we need to charge a nominal services fee. Refer to the Donations page on this web-site for more details.

Getting Started is Easy
- Download the App Coaches and players download the app from the Apple App Store. Sponsors do not need the app. Communication with sponsors is done by the players directly to their sponsors with the app's integrated text messaging.
- Create Your Team The coach, or team manager, creates their new team in the app and shares the team name and password with their players. New team registration takes less than 5 minutes.
- Build Team Roster The coach or players then enter the players names along with their favorite pics, or selfies, to the team roster.
- Schedule Your Event The coach, or team manager, schedules their team's shoot-a-thon event in the app (A nominal, in-app purchase is required). The event can be conducted during a single day or over multiple days. For example, a coach may desire to have their players each shoot 20 free throws after practices during a week.
- Players Get Sponsors Next, the players request and enter their sponsors pledges in the app for the scheduled event. At this point, the players have the option to send text messages to their sponsors confirming their pledges. Sponsor pledges can be entered in the app before, during, or after the event.
- Enter Shots in Scoreboard On the day(s) of the shoot-a-thon event, the players will shoot the number of specified shots and record their "makes and misses" in the app's scoreboard. The Free Throws-4-Funds app automatically calculates all the players resulting donations based upon their shooting performance. The app's reports provides live, updated stats for coaches and players to monitor the event's progress. During the event, players can easily share their scoreboard stats – including photos - with their sponsors using the integrated text messaging feature.
- Players Text Sponsors for Donations After the event is over, players use the app's built-in features to send an automated text message to their sponsors with the final donations amounts due. The event's automated text message can be easily tailored by the coach/team manager, for example, to direct their sponsors to your team's website, or payment platform, with payment instructions.
- Track Event Progress The coach and players then can track the collection of donations with the app's sponsors reports. Also, follow-up text messages can be sent by the players to their sponsors to remind them to make their donations.
- Have Fun! That's it. It's really this easy!
